What you need to do if you get an car accident is remain calm and follow the tips provided below:

Stop your car, move it to a safe position near the location of the accident. The law requires that you stop at the accident scene; failure to do so could result in a traffic ticket or a warrant for your arrest

If there are injuries or substantial property damage, ask someone to call the police or highway patrol. Everyone who can walk should move to a safe location. If necessary, call 911 for medical assistance.

If your vehicle isn't drivable, call a towing company to move your vehicle. Get the name, address, and phone number of the towing company.

Provide police with the information they require. Ask the investigating officer where to obtain a copy of the police report. You will probably need it.

Try to keep a pad and pencil in your glove compartment. Write down the following items: 

Names, addresses and phone numbers of all drivers and passengers involved in the accident. Car license numbers, make and model of each car involved Operator's drivers license number and insurance policy number.

Do not admit fault. Give details of the accident and cooperate with the police in providing answers to their questions.

Names and addresses of as many witnesses as possible

Names and badge numbers of police, you may ask the police officer's name, phone number, and the police report number

If you have camera in your car, take pictures of all the car involved in the accident and the accident location.
