Car Insurance
Car insurance or auto
insurance covers all types of road vehicles, whether
you drive a car, a truck, or an SUV. Motorcycles
also fall under the car insurance. Car
insurance requires you to have a valid driver's
license for the type of vehicle, as well as a valid
license plate on the vehicle itself, from your state or
provincial government. You should also be aware: your
government requires certain minimum levels of car
insurance be carried by a driver; mostly to protect
other people. You have to check your regional government
website for the required car insurance coverage
in your area.
You need to understand what you really need.
You need to know what 'extras’ and how much risk
tolerance you have for auto insurance.
Finally, when getting ready to purchase car
insurance we suggest for you to get quotes from more
than one auto insurance company. You can
work with car insurance agents, however most
agents only work with a limited number of car
insurance companies. There's no way to be sure that
you've really got the best car insurance quote
unless you do some research yourself.
Auto insurance
Does everyone have to
have auto insurance?
Yes, automobile liability
insurance, or proof of financial responsibility is required
in all fifty states. Although each state sets their own
limits on how much auto insurance or car
insurance is needed. If you have a lease or loan on
your car, you are usually required by the lender to have
comprehensive and collision coverage in addition to the
state required liability coverage.
Most states require that
you have liability insurance on your auto
insurance. This covers you when you're at fault in an
accident. (Remember all those near misses in parking lots
and while changing lanes on the freeway when you were
blabbing on the cell phone, trying to change the
CD)
Personal Injury Protection (PIP), or Medical
Payments (MedPay) in some states, pays for your own
medical expenses, any lost wages and whatever other costs
may arise when you're injured in an accident. It usually
pays about 80 percent of your losses, and it also pays a
death benefit. PIP is required in Colorado, Delaware,
Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland,
Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York,
North Dakota, Oregon and Utah.
Some states also require you to purchase car insurance that
will cover your own medical expenses, pain and suffering
losses.
